Prayer

Prayer is an essential part of the family of St John’s, as we live and grow together as the body of Christ. Prayer deepens our relationship with God, acknowledging that He is in charge. Prayer also offers us the chance to praise, seek and listen to God as we attempt to “Be still and know that I am God” (Ps 46:10). Many opportunities exist for you to join with others in prayer. Here are some of them:

INTERCESSORY PRAYER MEETINGS

Prayer ImageThese prayer meetings will lead us through one method of prayer and intercession, as we cover St John’s in prayer during our current time of transition.  Time will be spent teaching the principles, and then we will put them into action, listening to what God wants to communicate to us about ourselves and our church body, so that we can pray and intercede.

2nd Thursday of the month.  10.30am – 12.00 noon & 7.30pm – 9.00pm.

January meeting will be 3rd Thursday of the month.

PRAYER DAYS

This year the Life Groups and prayer triplets will be encouraged to pray through the points in the Prayer Diary each month.

Once a term all life groups will be asked to spend their whole time together in focused prayer for St John’s and the wider community….much like an inhouse prayer day.  Groups can then be more flexible in how they pray together, within a setting where people already feel comfortable praying.

PRAYER DIARY

A St John’s Prayer Diary is available each month, outling points for prayer and praise across our various ministries. Grab a copy from the church entrance, or via the link below, and be prayerful over the coming month! The Wollongong Regional Prayer Diary can also be downloaded below:

PRAYER SERVICES

Two prayer services will run during the normal Sunday service times this year….one at the beginning of the year and one at the end.  On Sunday 27th February we’ll come together in the services to ‘Praise & Petition’ God in prayer.  On 27th November we’ll come together again during the services to hold a time of ‘Celebration & Thanksgiving’ for all God has done over the year.

PRAYER CHAIN

Our Prayer Chain is available for anyone who needs prayer, at any time, and for any reason.  When a prayer request is received, it is prayed for immediately and passed on to the next person on the Prayer Chain, resulting in approximately 30 people praying in confidence.  Requests can be sent to the Prayer Chain via:

* Phone Jean Blott (9521 5257), Carol Redman (9521 5497) or Sue Bastow (9521 4314) or

* Email emergencyprayer@stjohns.org.au

PERSONAL PRAYER AT CHURCH SERVICES

Emergency prayer for church members can be included in the church service if critical situations arise (e.g. ICU, life-threatening illnesses, woman in labour, etc). Contact Faye Hillier, or pop a note in the ‘Prayer Request’ box in the church entrance before the service begins.
