Thank you for your prayers for our Chinese Gospel Dinner last Saturday. Give thanks to God for a great evening! Many guests came along, enjoyed a delicious Chinese banquet and listened to gospel songs and a talk in Mandarin. There were around 40 adults and 10 children. Some of them we had not met before. Others were English class students, past students and neighbours to the church. Some had not visited church or an event for a long time. It was clear that God has been at work in these people, not wanting them to be lost, but to come to him through his Son. Continue reading
Thank you for praying for our Meeting Jesus course! At the end of the four weeks, one of the participants put his faith in Jesus as Lord and Saviour. Praise God for his mercy! A husband and wife who also attended the course, found a renewed faith and desire to know Jesus better so have joined a weekly Bible group at the home of a church family – the Discipleship Group which hosted the course at church. The husband is a student at English Class – he and his wife are from Uruguay. Our next Meeting Jesus course will begin on 31st October. Continue reading
This term we have been reading through the book of James in our discipleship groups. For some members, it is the first time they have read this letter. I have found it a joy and privilege to read the Bible alongside sisters and brothers in the Easy English, Mandarin and Persian groups. Observing how these believers, both new and old, value God’s word as a precious treasure to delve into, dwell on and live by, makes me realise how I can tend to take this great treasure for granted. Wonderful news! Leila and her son Parsa, as well as Ebrahim, Naomi and son Samuel, received their decisions from the Government of Nauru today. Both families have been found to be refugees!! I had the privilege to be with Leila when the decision was handed down, and congratulate her. It was Parsa’s 14th birthday yesterday, but today they will be able to relax and celebrate.
Praise God for this good result for both families!! Continue reading
Great news!! Praise God for answering our prayers for Mahin and her daughter Emma! They have been granted Safe Haven Enterprise Visas (5 year protection visas). After an eight year wait, they are refugees – no longer asylum seekers – a happy day for them! It brings with it many changes and some new challenges so Mahin will be glad of your ongoing prayers. Her asylum seeker benefit (SRSS) will cease and she will need to apply for a Centrelink benefit (which can take several weeks to be approved) and look for work. Continue reading
Recently, I requested prayer for our church families who were detained on Nauru before being transferred to Australia. They are still facing uncertainty regarding their settlement process. It’s distressing for them not knowing in which country they will be living in six months or a year’s time from now, and when – or if – they will see their family members in Iran again. But they have been comforted and strengthened through your prayers. Continue reading
It has been a busy start to the year at St James Berala, with lots of work taking place – including moving and repairing our demountable kids ministry building, making new concrete paths and installing a new kitchen and (soon) disability access ramp (with the help of a NSW Gov grant!). New student ministers have joined us, there’s been a wedding and a new baby, lots of visitors and some new church members. We’ve started having the Bible read on Sundays in a language other than English (rotating each week) in addition to English. Praise God!! Continue reading
